Service Providers: Landscape Architects

Landscape Architects are professionals who have been educated from an accredited university program. Degrees are granted either as a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA). Landscape Architects are required by law to pass an examination to become licensed. In order to maintain this professional status, the State of Virginia has passed practice laws that require all landscape architects to maintain a certain number of continuing educational hours in order for them to remain aware of and knowledgeable about new techniques and industry standards.

While there are many different applications for landscape architects, most are trained in environmental analysis (often including conservation and reclamation); land planning; design and development; site engineering; and construction techniques. Landscape architects often apply theory, horticulture, art, history and both natural and social sciences to their designs. Working primarily with computer-aided design software, landscape architects work in developing a variety of both public and private commercial and industrial projects, as well as residentially-scaled projects. In addition, landscape architects tend to bring creativity and organization to each of their projects through a process that begins with concept plans, from which design development and final construction documents are prepared.

Listed are several companies that employee PLA members who are licensed and practice landscape architecture.
